Learn how artists make a sustainable living through the experiences of multi-talented creatives from across Chicago. Announcing the Artist Talk Series, a new LIVE virtual series hosted by Marwen, featuring local artists! This new series is part of Marwen’s Youth and Emerging Artist Pathways program and is intended for 18-24 year-olds seeking to connect with other professionals in the Chicago artist community. Learn about their unique art making processes, what it means to be a freelancer right now, more traditional job experiences, and more!
This series will take place on Marwen’s Instagram (March 30, April 6 + 13) and will culminate with a panel discussion, featuring 5 local artists on Zoom (April 20).

Do you have an eye for art and want to build a career as an artist? Wondering what the different paths as an artist are to make money? Get inspired, and join four professionals working in the arts (including Marwen alumni) for an open conversation about what it means to have an arts career in 2021. This event is free and open to the public.

Jarius Brookins is a Chicago native, graphic designer , and Marwen alum with experience in marketing. He runs a clothing line and also does freelance work in marketing, logo design, and branding. Jarius will share how he started doing freelance work and his process for designing elements in a logo. He’ll take you through a design activity to create your own logo.
TUESDAY, APRIL 6, 6-7 PM
Chelsea Stevenson is a full-time, celebrated henna artist and business strategist. She started her business, Cardamom & Clove Henna, in her living room. Ten years later she owns a popular henna boutique in Baltimore. Chelsea will share her journey as a creative entrepreneur, the history of henna art, how to use henna safely, and her process to prepare designs for clients.
TUESDAY, APRIL 13, 6-7 PM
Joelle Mercedes is an artist and educator whose work is grounded in collage techniques that puncture the restrictions of the two dimensional frame, examining and stretching concepts of origin, ancestry, birth and history. Join Joelle for a studio visit and conversation where we will investigate her practice in artmaking, education, and curation.
