On 10/14, we spoke with Maribel Ang, former admissions officer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) on strategies for preparing your portfolio from home. Video recording and slides below.
Here are some major takeaways:
You can shoot and edit photos of your work straight from your smartphone or tablet!
When taking a photo of a piece, use white or black backgrounds to emphasize the true colors of your piece. You can use paper or cloth to create the background.
You can use the sun for lighting. Make sure the sunlight is as neutral as possible (not too warm/yellow).

For college applicants, review what each college provides in terms of studios for various mediums, course offerings, teachers/professors, career support, alumni opportunities. You can check these out on their websites or virtual events.
