This fall, Marwen’s College + Career team is holding weekly, one-hour workshops on preparing for college or high school, including how COVID-19 might impact your process. Workshop of the Week is a weekly series that occurs every Wednesday from September 30 to December 2.
All workshops are free and open to young people interested in planning their next steps. Registration and workshops all take place through Zoom. Attend as many workshops as you’d like!
What to know before you register:
There are 9 unique workshops. You can register for as many as you like!
Workshops start the week of September 30 and end the week of December 2.
All workshops meet on Wednesdays from 5 - 6 pm.
All workshops and registration take place on Zoom.
You can register up until the time the workshop starts. We encourage you to sign up sooner rather than later, so you don’t miss out.
Open to ALL Chicago young people (ages 11-19)

We’ll chat with Marwen alumni who are current college students. They will discuss the transition from high school to college, the effort to keep making art in college, and overall college life.

Wednesday, September 30, 5 - 6 pm
We’ll review the FAFSA, the application for federal student aid which opens on October 1. The workshop will include updates to the FAFSA and financial aid process for the upcoming year.

What Is the College Application Process?
Wednesday, October 7, 5 - 6 pm
Learn about the general college application process. The workshop will include a timeline for early and regular applications, and updates relevant to COVID-19 news.
WORKSHOP #3
Portfolio Development Essentials
Wednesday, October 14, 5 - 6 pm
Portfolios are an important part of art program applications. Former admissions counselor at School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), Maribel Ang, will speak on strategies to develop your portfolio from home.
WORKSHOP #4
GoCPS Updates: High School Application Process Wednesday, October 21, 5 - 6 pm
We’ll review the general GoCPS application process for Chicago public and charter high schools. We will include application updates related to COVID-19 news.

WORKSHOP #5
Midwest Four-year Public Universities
Wednesday, October 28, 5 - 6 pm
In this conversation, we’ll meet with representatives from the following four-year public universities: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), and University of Michigan. We’ll talk about applications, scholarships, and student life.

Midwest Four-year Private Universities
Wednesday, November 4, 5 - 6 pm
In this conversation, we’ll meet with representatives from the following four-year private universities: DePaul University, Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), and Knox College. We’ll talk about applications, scholarships, and student life.

Art School Panel
Wednesday, November 11, 5 - 6 pm
In this conversation, we’ll meet with representatives from the following art schools: School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), Columbia College Chicago, and Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD). We’ll talk about applications, scholarships, and student life.
