Marwen_Connect is a new program that aims to build a network of Marwen alumni supporting the pathways of Marwen community members – professionally, educationally, artistically, and personally.
Growth opportunities deepen when we connect with people who can provide feedback, reflection, and expertise in support of growth. Throughout Marwen’s nearly 36-year history, alumni have continuously sought a desire to connect, seek advice, share experiences and skills, and give back.
Marwen acknowledges the barriers that exist for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ people in accessing opportunities for their next steps, including in careers, education, and the arts. Through this program, people who belong to these communities will have the opportunity to connect with people in their fields of interest who share their identities.
In a nutshell, Marwen_Connect…
is a mentorship program for Marwen community members, including Marwen alumni, young people (6-12th grades), Teaching Artists and Emerging Teaching Artists, and community partners*
is volunteer based
includes one Marwen alum as part of each matched pair
addresses topics like professional, educational, artistic, and/or personal growth
features two participation paths: those seeking support and those providing support
aims to deepen engagement within the Marwen alumni community
is an opportunity for alumni to provide feedback, reflection, and expertise in support of professional, career, and artistic growth
How it works:
Step 1: Alumni, young people, and community partners submit an interest form
Step 2: Marwen staff schedule a 1:1 check in (in person and virtual options)
Step 3: Marwen staff create a mentor/mentee match and make introductions
Step 4: The matched pair schedule a meeting on their own (30-60 min, in-person or virtual); additional meetings/connections are encouraged but not required
Step 5: Marwen staff follows up with participants 1 and 3 months after the initial conversation to check in, share a brief survey, and track progress
